Yoga for Beginners
Start exploring yoga with Onde, including simple practice habits, introductory movements, breathing awareness, and ways to build a comfortable beginner routine.
Your first yoga session is an opportunity to learn, rather than a test of flexibility or balance. A beginner-friendly setting gives you time to explore unfamiliar positions, understand the instructor’s cues, and discover what feels comfortable. Arrive with curiosity and let the practice develop gradually.
Choose an introductory class
Look for a class described as suitable for beginners and ask what the session involves. Different styles can vary in pace and structure. Tell the instructor that you are new so they can explain the setup and offer options throughout the class.
Prepare a simple space
Wear clothing that allows you to move comfortably and check whether the studio supplies mats or other equipment. At home, clear enough space to move without nearby obstacles. Having the basics ready helps you give your attention to the session once it begins.
Follow cues at your own pace
Listen for instructions about position and transitions, and take time to understand them. Ask for an alternative when a position does not suit you. You do not need to match the depth, range, or pace of the person beside you to participate.
Make room for breathing and pauses
Notice your natural breathing as you move, without forcing a particular rhythm. Pause when you need to and use the options the instructor provides. Becoming familiar with the language and flow of a class is part of the learning process.
Return to a familiar starting point
Repeating an introductory class can make the next visit feel less unfamiliar. Notice which movements, class settings, and teaching styles you enjoy. Build a routine around that experience rather than expecting every session to look different or feel more challenging.
